Abstract
The transient behavior of irreversible bacterial adhesion onto solid surface is modeled statistically. Unlike a conventional deterministic approach, probability laws are employed in modeling the dynamic phenomenon. The statistical representation is capable of describing both the macroscopic and random characteristics of the phenomenon under consideration. The distribution of the number of adhered cells is found to be binomial. The model proposed is adequate in describing the available experimental data. The model gives comparable results as those predicted by a previously developed stochastic model. © 1987 Academic Press Inc. (London) Ltd.
