Abstract
In this Letter, we theoretically investigate the entanglement generation by the scattering processes of initially separable bi-partite systems. The target maximally entangled state is defined as the original Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) pair: two particles of interest are assumed to be infinitely far away from each other in the distant future. The potential energy functions working during their encounter are intrinsic non-local unitary transformations in most of the scattering processes. These potentials create quantum mechanical correlation between the two particles (entanglement). In the usual scattering experiments, the incident momentum k→ can be regarded as a control parameter for the entanglement manipulation. We find the relationship between k→ and the entanglement fidelity for some simple examples. In particular, it has been found that the low energy elastic scattering is desirable for entanglement enhancement. The final outgoing waves can be used, e.g., for quantum teleportation. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
