Abstract
In the first part of this thesis, investigations of binding of compound 1 with various anions by NMR, UV absorbance, fluorescence, and X-ray diffraction experiments were carried out and binding constants were obtained. We find compound 1 complexes with F-, Cl-, and OH- to form 1:2 adducts and complex with H2PO4-, OAc-, and OTs- to form 1:1 adducts. Cyclic voltammetry was used to explore the redox properties of complexes and electropolymeric films were prepared. Finally, the electropolymeric film of compound 1 was used as the hole transport layer in OLED device.
In the second part of this thesis, a series chiral dopants with tert-aromatic ring and BINOL group were synthesized and the helical twisting powers (HTP) were determined. Then HTP dependent was discussed. Liquid crystals doped with chiral dopants showed the electro-optical hysteresis. Finally, transferring chirality to liquid crystal molecules by electropolymeric films was attempted.
