Abstract
Recently wireless network has much improvement and is getting popular. Many applications that perform well in wired network do not work normally in wireless LAN. This is due to the properties of wireless LAN, such as limited bandwidth, channel variability, high bit error rate, and low power consumption requirements, which result in different performance between wired and wireless networks.
UPnP technology is an architecture that many industry leaders such as Microsoft and Intel proposed to enable zero-configuration connectivity and automatic discovery between devices. Based on UPnP, UPnP AV technology focuses on transfer of multimedia content and is considered a popular multimedia network application in near future.
This paper focuses on UPnP AV architecture and aims at provisioning QoS-guaranteed transmission for UPnP AV multimedia streaming applications over wireless LAN. We propose a QoS-related information extraction algorithm, which is without changing any existed protocol and transparent to users. We design and implement transparent QoS provisioned UPnP AV multimedia system. Finally, we have realistic experiments to evaluate and verify our system.
