Abstract
Due to the public health and insurance policies, most of the hospitals in Taiwan were facing an increasingly competitive environment and with a low profit margin. Under such circumstances, the external collaboration strategy has become a viable strategy for hospitals to cope with such a hostile environment. The range of collaboration extends from non-core services to core activites, even to outsourcing activites and beyond business only concerns. Thus, in this research we will examine those factors that will facilitate or hamper the outsourcing strategy for firms in medical services. We also provide a framework for medical service decision makers to choose their outsourcing strategy.
