Abstract
“Rating” was used been seen as “Audience” in media industry, but the television audience measurement company, such as AGB Nielson, who provide the rating research report for media, was blasted by media industry in its inaccuracy sample.
Digital Television Set-top-box creates an opportunity to improve the television audience measurement method, which might replace all the other existed method. This research discussed three dimensions in Digital Television Set-top-box’s audience measurement, which would impact the existed method and media industry. These dimensions are: technology, law, and market.
In technology, this research demonstrated how Digital Television Set-top-box proceeded with television audience quantitative research, including rating measurement and appreciation index. In law, this research analyzed the privacy law in Taiwan, U.A., and EU, which Digital Television Set-top-box might against to. In market, this research predicted the impact of Digital Television Set-top-box against the television audience measurement market, and described the opinion of media industry in Taiwan.
