Abstract
This research proposal is one of the counter-part projects of the Sino-American cooperation in studying Sino-American cooperation in studying collisional mountain belt in Taiwan.
The primary purpose of the proposed study is to document in detail the structural
styles of deformation and their spatial
distribution within the metamorphic rocks in
the Taiwan Mountain Belt. Such research
efforts have provided critical structural
information in understanding the processes of
building spectacular mountains in many
orogenic belts. For example, large-scale
structures are recognized within the orogenic
belts, such as nappe stacking structures,
tectonic escape, pull-apart structures, and the
transfer zone. In the past years, many
geologic theories have been proposed to
interpret the uplifting of the Central Range in
Taiwan. In order to support or refute current
theories more effectively, an integrated
structural study to better document the
structural styles and their distribution
becomes very necessary within the Central
Range of Taiwan. This is because only
limited structural data are available in these
areas.
