Abstract
The close relationship among inflammation, metabolic syndrome, and CVD (cardiovascular disease) are getting more evident after several studies. CRP (C-reactive protein), a serum inflammatory marker, has been proven to be closely related to metabolic syndrome and its components in a large prospective study. The association between them is more prominent in women than in men. Both CRP and metabolic syndrome are independent risk factors for CVD, and the odds ratios are about 2 folds. CRP may become important in clinical practice and application in risk assessment of CVD in the future.
