Abstract
Learning heterogeneity exists between individual learners. However , most past literature views the organization as a population of individual learners, and organizational learning as the sum of individual’s behavior. In other words, organization learning effects were examined assuming the absence of individual learning heterogeneity. Since the improvement of organizational performance or the effect learning may result from many factors such as individual ability, technological improvement and other internal and environmental forces, to understand organization learning, we need to take into account these factors. This study attempts perform an the individual-based evaluation of organizational learning . By doing so , we took into account of the heterogeneity between and within an organization.ased on Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research (NHIR) database, this study uses the proposed method to examine the impact of learning on the performance of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) and cancerectomy surgeries.irst, we applies the hyperbolic model to estimate all surgeon’s learning coefficient. Second, we use the nonparametric test, both Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Fligner-Policello test, to examine the heterogeneity between and within an organization. Finally, learning the heterogeneity is examined using the three-dimension diagrams according to surgeon’s seniority, the location of hospital, and the affiliation of hospital.ur empirical results suggest that junior surgeons have better learning effects than senior surgeons under in terms of performing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy surgery. However, there does’t exise no differ learning effects for hospital location or affiliation. In addition, for the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy surgery, we found junior surgeons in the northern hospitals to learn faster. However, senior surgeons in the southern hospitals learn faster than their colleagues in the worth.
