Abstract
Soldiers hold a great responsibility of defending the nation and protecting its citizens. Obeying orders and dedicating to the war when required is what a soldier must do. The nation provides soldiers with free medical care, which relies mainly on its military medical system. As a military medical doctor, one is required to make sure this medical system works. Considering such factors as the shortening of the period of military service, military department budget cuts, human resources reduction, the changes of the health care environment and the competitive medical market etc, many doctors decide to leave the military sector after they have fulfilled the lawfully minimum period of the required services, to enter into private practice. Though, some doctors decide to remain in the force after retirement.urposes: This research not only investigates what influences medical doctors’ choice in selecting their career paths, but also analyses & evaluates the level of satisfaction in life and work and in personal health ondition for both serving and retired military doctors . (NB: The serving military doctors in this research refer to the doctors who decide to stay after having fulfilled their lawfully required minimum period)ethods: This research is based on graduates of the National Defense Medical Center; in the 12 years of 1983 to 1994(i.e.M76~M87) as research targets for structural surveys. 1628 questionaires were sent out and 619 responded, which gave an effective return ratio of 38%. A Cross-sectional study with Descriptive Analysis, one-way ANOVA, T-test, Chi-Square Analysis, Pearson’s Correlation, Logistic Regression Analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis were adopted.onsulsions:.Factors which influence the retiring military doctors’ choice of career selection are graduate classes, military categories, military ranks, birth places, families, professional qualification, education levels and graduate performances. Among which, graduate classes, military ranks & school performances show significant influence while professional education levels become significant correlation..Career selection has a great impact on career satisfaction; Serving military doctor’s life satisfaction and work satisfaction level tend to be higher than retired military doctors’..Under the control of personal category and career path experience, career selection tends to have an obvious influence towards career satisfaction..The higher the career satisfaction, the better the self evaluated health state.
