Abstract
A high speed super class purse seiner was developed to meet the requirement of the Taiwan's fishery and maintain it's superiority in the pelagic fishing. In the basic design, the datas of similar purse seiners were collected firstly. Then, the regression method was applied to analyze the collected datas and to derive the empirical formulas. The principal dimensions of designed purse seiner were determined from the regression formulas. In the design of hull form, the potential computational fluid dynamics code was used to optimize the lines. Then, the model tests of resistance and self-propulsion were conducted in the towing tank of National Taiwan University to validate the designed propulsive performance. Also, the viscous flow field computation of full scale ship was done by Comet code to verify the nominal wake and wave patterns. The general 'arrangements of the purse seiner, such as the fishing method, operational and compartment requirements, the loading and unloading of fish, the moving path, and humanistic cabin, were designed based on the principles of human factor and ergonomics. The maximum efficiency of human-ship system was expected in this design by developing the human potential.
