Abstract
Neurogenic tumors are rare in retroperitoneal space. When they occur at the left upper quadrant of abdomen, they are usually mistaken for pancreatic in origin. These tumors should be differentiated from the ordinarily seen pancreatic adenocarcinoma because pancreatic adenocarcinoma usually bears poor prognosis, while neurogenic tumors usually bear more favorable prognosis. There are some clues to differentiate between these tumors both before and during operation. Hereby we report two cases of malignant neurogenic tumors (one primitive neuroectodermal tumor and the other Schwannoma) which were operated on, and continue will now with disease-free survival of seven and nine months respectively. Some items of value in differential diagnosis and the treatment of these tumors are discussed.
