Abstract
A 20-43 GHz downconverter with wide IF BW, low noise, and Gbps-data links with good SNR is introduced for the superheterodyne Rx of 5G backhauls. The single-balanced (SB-) downconverter adopts passive cold-bias mixing stage and differential common-source (CS-) FETs g{\mathrm{m}} stage to achieve wide RF/IF BW, high isolations, and low noise figure (NF) with low LO drive. Continuous wave (CW) tests show RF BW of 20-43 GHz and IF BW of 0.1-6 GHz with flat conversion gain (CG), and 6.2-9.7 dB single-sideband (SSB) NF. The GHz-BW QAM carrier down-conversion tests present 8-15 Gbps data rate with 64/256 QAM in 5G K/Ka-band of 24/28/39 GHz. The wideband downconverter with Gbps data-link capability can be utilized for high-speed backhauls communication in full 5G K/Ka-bands. ? 2020 IEEE.
