Abstract
A half-diallel including 6 selfing and 15 single crosses was preformed to estimated the
general combining ability, and thc specific combining ability for important horticultural traits
including yield, fruit total soluble solid contents, plant height increment, stem cross sectional
area increment, and areas under disease progress curve for papaya breeding lines resistance to
papaya ringspot virus (PRSV-P). The papaya seedlings were planted in the field then
inoculated with severe mottle with necrosis strain of PRSV-P three weeks after planting. The
visual symptom rating were investigated 3 weeks after inoculation and repeated once of every
month. Very significant differences were among lines. For these traits, the variance was
partitioned into general, and specific combining effects. General combining ability was more
important than the specific combining ability except fruit total soluble solid contents. The
general and specific combining ability were estimated in the study.
