Conducted from the perspective of the East Asian Confucian hermeneutics of classics, this study reassesses the relationship between spontaneous evangelization of Catholicism in Korea and the Qike which was written by Jesuits, while also attempting to move beyond past studies which limit “Confucian-Christian exchange” to the Chinese perspective. Based on this viewpoint, this study is trying to deduce and validate how the internal logic of East-Asian Confucian thought can be a possible reason behind the recent flourishing of Christianity in Northeast Asia. Furthermore, through the eyes of East-Asian Catholicism history, this study connects the development of Catholicism in China and Korea, rediscovering the Jesuit method of evangelization by written works and knowledge used by the first Catholic missionary to Korea, Father James Chu (Zhou Wenmo) and how it led to his idea to ask for a big vessel. Lastly, by observing the theology of Korean Confucian Yi Byok(Lee Pyok ), this study in turn depicts the formation and development of East-Asian Christian historical consciousness (The sense of Providence in East-Asian).

초록
본문은 "동아시아 유교경전의 해석 "이라는 연구관점을 통해 한국 천주교회의 자발적인 전래와 발전 및 한국교회와 예수회 저작《七克》사이의 밀접한 관계를 탐구하고자 한다. 이를 통해 "유교-기독교 사이의 교류"라는 연구주제가 기존의 중화문화를 중심으로 한 단일론적인 한계를 타파하고, 현재 동아시아 지역에 기독교가 활발하게 발전하고 있는 상황은 유학사상의 이론적 기초에 도움 받은 바가 컸음을 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 나아가 "동아시아 천주교사" 라는 관점으로 중국, 한국 천주교회의 발전과정을 연결시켜, 예수회의 "지식선교, 과학선교" 방침이 어떻게 주문모(周文謨)신부에 의해 한국에 전해지고 구체화되었으며, 이후 초대 한국 천주교회의큰 “대박청래”(大舶請來)운동으로 연결되었는지도 보여주려 한다. 마지막으로 이를 통해 조선 천주교 유학자였던 이벽(李蘗)의 신학사상을 관찰하여 초기 한국천주교가 동아시아 기독교사에 있어 매우 중요한 의의 - 동아시아 기독교 역사의식 (동아시아 섭리)-를 가짐을 설명하려 한다.
