Abstract
The purpose of this study mainly aims at
the establishment of the stage-discharge
relationship in a tidal reach. As the flow
condition is complicate and the stage of
which is seriously influenced by the tide at
downstream, the stage-discharge relationship
in a tidal reach is ambiguous and offers no
further information for applications. Since
the stage in a tidal reach still varies regularly
with time in response to the tidal effects and
its variation remains in form of an
approximately sinusoidal function, the
stage-discharge relationship at a staging
station can be established by filtering out its
downstream tidal effects. Therefore, one is
able to estimate the discharge from stage at
stations in a tidal-effect-reach, as long as the
stage variation downstream at the river
mouth and its time sequence are known. This
stage- discharge information can be applied
to better understanding of flow situations in a
tidal reach, and further more be applied to
many other applications of interested.
This study, in the first year, is a
prerequisite to a series of researches in a
tidal-effected river to be conducted urgently
in the near future. The stage-discharge
relationship of a tidal reach is significant to
many studies and can be applied to
applications such as the estimation of the
discharge during a flood, real time flood
forecasting and so on.
