Abstract
Although endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) had become a mainstay of the endoluminal treatment of upper gastrointestinal cancers, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) still plays an important role for the treatment of colorectal neoplasm. The majority of endoscopically detected colorectal neoplasms are small and benign, and therefore curative en bloc resection can be achieved with EMR techniques. Even for lesions larger than 20 mm, for which en bloc resection is sometimes difficult, piecemeal EMR is still considered a viable option if a precise diagnosis can be made. In this chapter, the rationale and technical details of EMR will be introduced.
