Abstract
According to the characteristic of idle mode of IEEE 802.16j, we provide a novelocation management scheme. It combines with paging area based scheme and timer-ased scheme. The paging area based scheme is the paging and location update ini®erent areas. The timer-based scheme is that the system paging all cells usersay be in and update location period. In order to guarantee the scheme''s accuracy,e provide a rule to label the cells of IEEE 802.16j. The mobility model is also aandom walk model and it can quickly get user''s location at each cell. In addition,e formulate mathematical equations and get the optimized result. We comparehe mathematical analysis result with the simulation result. We get characteristicsbout di®erent messages arrival rate and the variable mobility probability under ourcheme.
