Abstract
This thesis focuses on the proton exchange membrane fuel cell - Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA), including proton exchange membrane, catalyst layer, gas diffusion layer, and the manufacture method of the MEA and test result.
The MEA adopts Nafion212, the active area is 250mm *100mm, the catalyst coated membrane method is used as the coating technique, the cell test the performance under the room temperature. The fuel are 30℃ hydrogen gas of 100% relative humidity and 30℃ oxygen gas. Both hydrogen and oxygen gas flow rate are 0.4 SLM. The catalyst loading for anode and cathode is 0.6 mg/cm2. The spraying technique of MEA fabrication is used. At vertical position from top to button. The best performance in this study is 174.312mA/cm2@0.64V.
In this study, the swelling problem of the proton exchange membrane in MEA fabrication is solved by using the self-manufacture jig and the heating system below the membrane. Advantage of spraying, the catalyst source is transform into micro droplet through the spraying technique, which can make an uniform catalyst layer. The shortcoming of spraying is that a catalyst is apt to be piled up in the pipeline and spray nozzle, cause catalysts to consume more, if can improve the coating tool, can make the consuming amount of catalyst reduce. In the automatic coating, if can keep the ink of catalyst to offer continuously, can enable making time to shorten.
