Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the effect of the semi-active control system in reducing the vibration of a torsion-coupling steel frame. In this study, the semi-active control system contains two Magneto-Rheological (MR) dampers as control devices located on the first floor of a torsion-coupling steel frame and tested it on a shaking table. Both wired and wireless structural sensing and control system will be used to control this structure. During the experiment, four control algorithms, including H2 centralized control algorithm, H∞ centralized control algorithm, H2 decentralized control algorithm and H∞ decentralized control algorithm are investigated. The measurement for use of all control cases focus on the acceleration feedback for controllers. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed wired and wireless control algorithms and the usefulness of MR-dampers for the structural response reduction (including torsion-coupling) are demonstrated. Discussion on the mathematical model of MR-damper for use in wireless control is made. Method to determine the weighting matrix (Q and R) for control system is also presented.
