Abstract
In this research work, the main contribution is to design three kinds of innovative planar antennas based on the revisions of Yagi-Uda antennas to shape the directive radiation beams. These proposed antennas are able to enable the better signal reception levels, especially (but not limited) for the wireless navigation positioning applications, such as GPS (Global Positioning System) and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), or CMMB’s (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) S-band wireless transmission. As what it mentioned, the antennas proposed in this work are all based on the planar designs, and moreover, all of them are with the end-fire directive radiation patterns. As a result, for the slimmer and slimmer wireless mobile communication devices, such as the smartphones, table PCs, navigators, notebooks, for the fixed wireless communication units, such as wireless routers, wireless base stations, tunnel/ subway wireless signal boosters, and the microwave relays, and even for the military equipment, like Radars, the presented antennas have better advantages to be incorporated into the products and units compared with the conventional antenna types, kinds, and designs. In summary, the antennas in this research are with innovative ideas and not confined to the conventional design concepts of the broadside radiations. Consequently, all of the antennas proposed in this work, such as the planar end-fire directive antenna for the L1-band GNSS application, the miniaturized planar end-fire directive antenna for the L1-band GNSS application, and the miniaturized planar dual-band end-fire directive antenna for the L1-band GNSS and S-band CMMB applications, are able to achieve the low profiles and good directive radiations. Therefore, they are promisingly to match the development trends of the current main-stream and future wireless products better.
