Abstract
In this study, we observe the motion of Kaolin mixed with water in the Rotating viscometer. The liquid of mixture in our experiment is constant volume (900ml) with various concentrations. The types of the motion of the liquid in different conditions, that is different rotating speeds and concentrations, in the viscometer include slipping, slumping, cataracting, and centrifuging. In theory, we use the result of K.F Liu and C.W Chang(2008), that is the calibration formula for steady and two-dimentional BIngham fluid, to calibrate the rheological parameters of mud flow.e set the rotational direction is clockwise. There are 8 different concentrations in our experiment, which range from 47.96% to 25.38%, with 12 different rotation speed (from 3.51rpm to 43.8rpm).Both the vary of concentration and speed affects the type of motion. Generally speaking, we got two types: the surface type and the bed type. The surface type is counter-clockwise and the bed type is clockwise. However, when the concentration exceeds 43.62% and under the critical speed, which is the rotational speed during the moving direction of the surface type was changed into another direction, the outcome of the experiments shows that types are both clockwise.
