Abstract
As far as bridge engineering is concerned, there are standards of the security in the process of design and construction, but monitoring and maintenance is long-term important factor of security of bridges. The fiber optical sensors base on Fiber-Bragg Grating (FBG) devices have many advantages such as light weight, small size, flexibility, enduring adverse circumstances, and it can be multiplexed in a series of arrays along a single fiber. So FBGs are suited to be the component of monitoring system.
FBGs are used on long-term monitoring a highway bridge and collocating remote control to set up a complete monitoring bridge system. Then, inventing the instrument used to monitor the variation of scouring depth of bridge columns and installed on bridges. Finally, do some tests to verify accuracy of a new monitoring technique-BOTDR. So as to set up stable and reliable monitoring system to make sure the safety of the life in the future.
