Abstract
Since the establishment of a healthful lifestyle benefits diseases prevention and health promotion, a quasiexperimental study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention program. Based on the criterions of health risk factors, 188 8th graders were selected. Those subjects were randomly assigned to the "diet and exercise" , "relaxation" , or compared groups by class unit. Health activities were designed in four weekly 150-minute educactional sessions for two intervention groups.
Study instruments including psychosomatic symptoms scale, health examination and questionnaires were employed to collect data for pretest and posttest. The intervention program significantly decreased the subjects' severity of psychosomatic symptoms. The "diet and exercise" group showed more effective than relaxation group. Although the physiological variables revealed no difference between pretest and posttest, health intervention program is indeed very good to establish subjects' health practices. Health eductional activities based on behavioral theories can be extended, when more professionals participated in and further studies are conducted.
