Abstract
We used radiotelemetry to minitor the home range, activity pattern, and habitat use by 13 female Formosan Ring-necked Pheasants (Phasianus colchicus formosanus) at Chao-Fon Farm in Hualien from 2003.3 to 2004.2. The result showed that the home range was largest in summer (17.5 ha) and smallest in winter (5.3 ha). And they were 10.4, and 8.8 ha in spring and fall, which were calculated by Minimum Convex Polygon (MCP). Habitat use by female pheasants had two types. Most of females used the same habitat during the day and night in spring, summer and winter. In fall, most of females used different habitat between the day and night. Females preferred different habitat during in spring and summer. While in fall and winter, they preferred Low pasture and orchard during the day, and Low pasture at night. Females’ hourly activity ratios were observed that all similar during the day in spring, fall and winter. However, it was higher in the early morning and late afternoon, and lowest at midday in summer.
