Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore
the factors that influence physician-patient
relationship and physicians’ coping behavior
due to malpractice. A structural questionnaire
is developed and mailed to the internal
medical physicians, surgeons, gynecologists
and obstetricians, and pediatricians. The
response rate is 10.47 percent. In qualitative
part, we analyzed the court room final
judgment, and tried to conclude the
characteristics in these cases.
The major outcomes included: the
major factor which influence physicianpatient
relationship is physicians’ attitude of
malpractice. Physicians’ knowledge and
attitude of malpractice will impact
physicians’ coping behavior due to
malpractice. In the content analysis,
physicians won most of the cases for those
entering into judicial process. The reasons
why patients brought up the claim include
that patients try to challenge medical
professions and obligation of care as well as
gap of expectation.
