Abstract
Based on Confucius’s famous quote that reading the Classic of Poetry can xing (to inspire) a person, this paper explores the deep meaning of “The Lush Peach” in the Classic of Poetry. Besides Mao Heng’s annotations that spotlight the implications of the poem, this study examines myths and folklores that are related to tao (peach). This poem is not only about a girl’s marriage, but about the meaning of life: to sprout, to bloom, to fruit, and to be endless.
