Abstract
The engine performance is determined by volumetric efficiency, thermal efficiency, and mechanical efficiency. Engine simulation program can be used for designing the engine intake and exhaust systems. We can simulate the thermal efficiency and mechanical efficiency by making use of combustion model and heat transfer model and friction loss model. The results of these efficiencies are engine’s torque and power curves.
Improving performances of engines is a target to all vehicle company. Performances are limited by the cost, emission regulations, and production technology, this focus on using the principles of intake and exhaust systems to improve the engine performance. Finally we want to find a guideline for designing the engine intake and exhaust systems.
