Abstract
During working over 15 years with companies in Information Technology and Semiconductor industries, there are some great chances for me to touch with certain leading companies in its SCM (Supply Chain Management, MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system. This thesis is based on the experiences from what we delivered for those companies in helping their IT system get readiness for supporting its global business, and part of collection is from those CIOs (Chief Information Officer) on how they lead the globalization projects and transform the company’s information system to face the dynamic changing of the need of the globalization. The study approach is starting from taking three best practices of globalization–SCM, MES and ERP from three major leader companies (H, I, and A) in this field. Particularly, in the subject of what steps need to take to transform the IT system and what the baseline of IT system needs to be considered, what template is best fit for IT’s consolidation – Simplifications, Standardization, Modularity and Integration, how to build, run and fine tune the model of business process and store it as knowledge, and how CIO’s role is changing from functional head to business network and business technology leader.
The issue of business IT alignment is a perennial problem, and there are no quick fixes or easy solutions. The challenge for CIO is substantial – CEOs see IT today as more an inhibitor to change than an enabler of change. The major goal to achieve for this study is to try to summarize the methodology of the case study from BPM (Business Process Management), common using Template with methodology, model, metrics and best practice into a Reference Model for helping the company start up its global business in most effective and efficient way.
