Abstract
Abstract
In modern civil engineering structures, which most of them are RC structures, column elements are the important part of these structures. Traditional RC columns are composed of cross ties and rectangular hoops. It takes not only time and human resources to form the cages, but there are also some difficulties in quality control.
Therefore, Dr. Samuel Ying and his company design a series of new patterns of confinements for rectangular concrete columns. The result of tests including axial compressive and excentrical loading tests of full-scale rectangular specimens and lateral cyclic loading test of full scaled columns shows that the five-spiral stirrup type is much more excellent and effective compared to others. Therefore, it is important to have more understanding about the behavior of five-spiral stirrup concrete column. In this research, non-linear FEM analysis by the product of Č ervenka consulting:ATENA is used to simulate the axial compressive and excentrical loading tests, and the analysis results are quite fit with the test results.
In this research, from the result of axial compressive and excentrical loading analysis of a series of design models, we can conclude an optimized design for the disposition of inner spiral and outer spiral of the cross section in five-spiral stirrup concrete column under axial compressive and excentrical loading.
