Abstract
There are two part in this report, nano-gold particles on TiO2 powder and nano-gold particles on fiber with TiO2 thin film. In the part of nano-gold particles on TiO2 powder, gold deposited on TiO2 via a deposition-precipitation method possesses a high activity foroxidizing CO to CO2. Even when the chloroauric acid solution(the source of gold particles) is made in our laboratory, the gold still exhibit a high catalytic activity for CO oxidation. However, under the consideration of the catalyst cost, the gold from the chloroauric acid solution made in our laboratory is much more cheaper than those from the commercial chloroauric acid solution. For the preparation of gold on Pyrex glass fiber, it was found from this research that the pretreatment method is the most important factor affecting the character of the titanium dioxide thin film and the catalytic activity for CO oxidation. When the glass fiber was pretreated by base solution, the catalysts show low catalytic activity for CO oxidation. On the other hand, when the glass fiber was pretreated by acetone and calcinations, the catalysts show high catalytic activity for CO oxidation. The research results also show that the titanium dioxide thin film affect the catalytic activity. With too thin titanium dioxide thin film, the catalytic property of nano-gold catalyst can be affected by the Pyrex.
