Predictors of substance abuse behaviors smong junior high school students in Taipei City

Abstract
青少年正處於行為模式以及生活型態養成的關鍵階段，因此，本研究利用1477名台北市國中生的資料進行典型相關分析，以探討青少年的個人特質及其社會環境在此過程中所扮演的角色。結果顯示，預測男女物質濫用行為的因子有些許不同。在男生方面，當朋友愈有吸菸或飲酒或嚼檳榔行為、家人愈有吸菸或飲酒行為、年級愈高、從家人得到的支持程度愈低時，他們會有吸菸、飲酒或嚼檳榔行為的可能性就愈大。在女生方面，則是當朋友愈有吸菸或飲酒行為、家人愈有吸菸或飲酒行為、從家人得到支持的程度愈低、加上本身的內控傾向愈低時，他們有吸菸或飲酒行為的可能性就愈大。此結果說明了朋友和家人的行為、家人給予支持的程度、以及個人特質，在青少年行為養成過程中很重要，可作為未來發展物質濫用防制介入計畫之參考。
In order to examine the relationship between adolescents' social environment and substance abuse behaviors in Taipei City, questionnaires regarding personal attributes, social relationships and substance abuse behaviors were given to 1477 junior high school students. Canonical correlation analysis revealed slightly different patterns of results for male and female students. Male students who were likely to engage in smoking, drinking alcohol, or chewing betel-nut were those who had friends and family members with similar health-risk behaviors, were higher graders, received little support from the family. In contrast, female students who were likely to engage in smoking or drinking alcohol were those who had friends and family members with similar behaviors, had a low internal locus of control belief, received little support from the family. These results indicate the importance of "friends' behaviors", "family members' behavior", "family support", and "personal attributes" in shaping adolescents' substance abuse behaviors. It also provides information that may be useful in the development of substance abuse prevention programs.
