A Study on the Relationships between Sressful Life Events and Internet Addiction with the Example of Junior High School Students in Sinjhuang City.

Abstract
The main purposes of this study were to explore the relationship among Internet using behaviors, stressful life events, and Internet addiction on junior high school students. In this study, we could understand the difference among junior high school students’ background, Internet using behaviors and stressful life events between Internet addiction in high dangerous groups and general Internet users. In addition to, we would explore that Internet using behaviors and stressful life events could be influence Internet addiction.
This research adopted the investigation method of the questionnaire, regarded junior high school students of the Xinhuang area of Taipei County, through gathering together the way of sampling, obtained 1102 effective samples, 115 were classified as Internet addiction in high dangerous groups. The instruments used in the study included “The Internet Using Behaviors for Junior High School Students’ Inventory, The Stress of Life Events for Junior High School Students Inventory(Stressful Life Events Scale), Internet Using Experiences Inventory(Internet Addiction Scale). Descriptive Statistics, T-Test, Chi-square Test, Two-Way Analysis of Variance, Pearson Product-moment Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis statistically analyzed the data with SPSS 12.0 for Windows.
The main findings were as follows:
1. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different genders on Internet addiction, especially the male students were easier to get Internet addiction than the female students.
2. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different grades on Internet addiction, especially in 8th grade students.
3. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different academic achievement on Internet addiction, especially the lower academic achievement students were easier to get Internet addiction than the others.
4. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different hours of using Internet per week in terms of Internet addiction, especially the average weekly hours exceeded forty hours students were easier to get Internet addiction.
5. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different places of using Internet on Internet addiction, especially using in cyber-café have higher tendency to become addicted.
6. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different the length of time using the Internet in terms of Internet addiction, especially using less than one year students have higher tendency to become addicted.
7. There were conspicuous differences in the variable of different Internet contents on Internet addiction, including chatting with friends, Internet pornography, installing software, on-line games etc, students used these contents have higher tendency to become addicted.
8. There were Interactions in the variable of different genders and the length of using the Internet on Internet addiction, especially in students that were the male and less than one year have higher tendency to become addicted.
9. There were no Interactions in the variable of different academic achievement and the the average weekly hours on Internet addiction.
10. There were no Interactions in the variable of different stressful life events and have computers or not on Internet addiction.
11. There was a conspicuous correlation between stressful life events and Internet addiction, especially school stressful events and family stressful events.
12. Internet using behaviors and Stressful life events could be used as factors to predict junior high school students’ Internet addiction. The most predictable variables are the average weekly hours of using Internet and school stressful events, can jointly predict 40.1% of the variation amount.
Finally, according to the research research conclusions, the researcher provided some suggestions particularly for Internet users, junior school authorities, counselors and parents. Issues for future study were also discussed.
