Abstract
We study the recently introduced Leschhorn model [H. Leschhorn, Physica A 195, 324 (1993)] for interfacial depinning with quenched disorder. The spatiotemporal intermittency observed in the system displays critical properties of fractals. By using the scaling argument, we are able to express various scaling exponents in terms of the fundamental exponents, i.e., the dynamical exponent [Formula Presented] the roughness exponent χ, and the correlation length exponent ν. Moreover, our simulation gives very good agreement with the prediction. The numerical values of various critical exponents show that the Leschhorn model is not in the same universality class of directed percolation. © 1997 The American Physical Society.
