Abstract
Taroko Gorge is famous for bet breath taking marble gorge Recently, the area and the adjacent high mountains are planned for a national park Evaluation of resources and environment, particularly, the existing land uses and future potential conflicts, may help to reduce the difficulties of park management The whole idea of resource management depends on the integration of development and conservation, which can be done through the adoption of anticipator environmental policies and of a cross-sectora1 conservation policy Land assessment, considered as a first step towards a wise management plan, was conducted through the following steps, including consultation with the park planning officer, collecting land resource data listing requirements of a national park, and comparison between land qualm and park requirements Finally, social and economic factors are evaluated. Since a national park is a government decision with very high priority, administrative conflicts were not considered as a handicap and should not be a handicap
