Abstract
Tea drinking has become popular in recent years, it has been gradually integrated into our daily lives. Besides being a drink and a hobby, tea has received increased attention due to its nutritious value. The objective of this research is to develop an automatic prototype tea maker, which is able to make high quality tea by using a simple and quick method. In this study, a design is proposed by using the coffee percolation device as the main focus with single chip microprocessor and temperature sensor served as control and combining those together as one automatic prototype tea maker. It can separate the tealeaves from the water, thus avoiding the tealeaves from immersing in hot water for too long. Temperature and brewing time can be set on the device based on the standard of making tea. Depending on the type of tealeaves and leaf-to-water ratio, brewing time were set for the extraction cycle. Different extraction times were set to produce different tea concentrations for the followings: Long-Jing Green Tea, Wen-Shan Baozhong Tea, Dong-Ding Oolong Tea, Tieh-Kuan-Yin Tea, Formosa Oolong Tea and Black Tea. In this way, consumers can adjust tea concentration and brewing temperature according to their preferences. The tea maker is able to satisfy the modern demand of efficiency and convenience and is thus a feasible new choice.
