Abstract
For echo integration, background noise can sometimes be excluded
from the integration process by the use of a threshold filter. But, a high
noise level threshold may have also excluding significant amounts of echo
signals arisen from biological targets, while a low noise level threshold
would affect otherwise. Since the components of background noise are
complex and variable, to improve the accuracy of hydroacoustic fishery
resource assessment, some noise clarification algorithms to dynamically
setting the appropriate threshold of noise level are worthwhile for
further investigation. In this study we have (1) developed an algorithm
for background noise filtering to improve the accuracy of hydroacoustic
fishery resource assessment; and (2) developed an effective echo data
retrieval and compilation system for fisheries resources assessment
purpose, particularly, in the South China Sea region.
