Abstract
Eight kind of orchid mycorrhizal fungi (OMF)
were isolated and purified from roots of terristrial
orchids in Taiwan. All of them showed no
harmful effects for the growth of 7-days-old
mungbean sprouts. The inoculation of OMF to
Anoectochilus formosanus Hayata and
Haemaria discolor var. dawsoniana all showed
significant enhancement for seed germination
and seedling growth in vitro as well as those in
vivo. In vitro, Hyponex No. 1 or 3 with either 20
or 30 g/l of sucrose in growth medium had
higher germination rate for Haemaria discolor.
For Anoectochilus formosanus. Activated
carbon enhanced the expression of apical
dominance but inhibited the formation of lateral
buds. Also there was no significant effect for the
presence of coconut water in the growth
medium. It was known previously that the
optimum temperature for the growth of
Anoectochilus formosanus was 20/15 ℃
(day/night temperature) , and the results showed
that for Haemaria discolor , 30/25 ℃was
optimum. Many fruit capsules for both plants
were collected by hand pollination, and the seeds
will be useful materials for next years research
