Abstract
This chapter presents some balanced filters for digital applications. It presents few innovative circuits with dual function of the differential-mode equalizer and common-mode filter (DME-CMF). The chapter explains two designs of differential-mode equalizer/CMF. Both designs are verified with frequency-domain and time-domain measurements. The equalizers of both designs were in the form of RL type, while CMFs were defected ground structure (DGS) type and mushroom type. In the first circuit, a time-domain step-by-step design procedure for the DME was proposed, while for the second circuit, the chapter analyzes the effect of the differential shunt stub (DSS) added to the mushroom CMF for widening the common-mode suppression bandwidth (BW). Experimental results were presented for verifying the effectiveness of the proposed circuits. Both circuits can be used in high-speed digital channel for equalizing the channel loss in order to have a better signal integrity, as well as eliminating common-mode noise for reducing electromagnetic interference.
