Abstract
“Kyoto protocol” became formally effective on February 16, 2005 for the restriction of CO2 emission, which also declared the new era of carbon emission control and trade market. Although Taiwan is not one of the treaty-wise nations with Kyoto protocol; following the international trend is inevitable. The greenhouse gases (GHG) emission data is a substantial evidence for reduction estimation and strategy establishment. Therefore the emission inventory shall be the fundamental at this current stage.
This thesis arranges primarily the international GHG inventory standard, procedure and tool, which is based on a consistent operating steel company as a case study with higher emission; thus to discuss the GHG emission source, inventory method, practical inventory result, energy reduction measures and compare with other inventory data from same business meanwhile. The 2003 and 2004 GHG inventory result for China Steel Co., Ltd showed the CO2 emission is 2.06 and 2.15 (ton per CO2/ton per steel)and the emission range from other steel company worldwide was approximately 1.46∼2.45.
The most common approach for calculating GHG emissions is through the application of generic emission factors; the inventory accuracy is chosen by proper emission factors and accurate activity data. This thesis analyzes besides the source, the type and the accuracy of emission factors, but also discusses the error and uncertainty by utilizing this method for further reference. Meantime, the objective is to propose to the government for localized emission factors at premier level in order to obtain more accurate GHG emission data nationwide.
