Abstract
The problem of fourth order synthesis of a spherical 4-bar function generator was solved by the method of relative pole equations. The locus of the relative pole between the coupler and the fixed link in a fourth order synthesis was found to be two spherical closed curves. When the gnomonic projection from the sphere center onto a plane tangent to the sphere at the relative pole between the two cranks is carried out, these two spherical curves are transformed into a single circle on the tangent plane. Examples are given. © 1983.
