Abstract
Abstract
Recently, planar antennas have been used in many applications in microwave and millimeter-wave systems. In this dissertation, we focus on the 3 slot antenna fed by coplanar waveguide (CPW).
First of all, a single slot antenna is simulated. Based on the simulation results, we observed that the dimension of slot is the most significant parameter affecting bandwidth when fed by inductive and capacitive CPW. From this, we designed a 3-slot antenna with different slot dimensions such that the bandwidth can be extended. In this thesis, the 3-slot antennas are designed for 3 different bands. The antennas achieve 40% bandwidth at the centered frequency 2.4 GHz, 32% bandwidth at 7 GHz, and 20% bandwidth at 60 GHz. The pattern distributions at high frequency verify that the capacitive CPW can lower cross-polarization. The antennas of three different bands have been fabricated. The measured results of the 2.4 GHz and 7 GHz antennas agree well with the simulated ones. The measured results of the 60 GHz antennas are not completed due to the material of the laminate and measurement equipments.
