Abstract
Debris flow disaster has become
one of the major reasons for slope land1
disaster. Nevertheless, the mitigation
and prediction of debris flow disaster are
still not technically achievable.
Therefore, countries such as Japan,
United States, China and Italy, which
have many debris flows annually, are all
conducting researches on monitoring
and forecasting.
This research will combine all
equipments presently under study to be
used in debris flow prediction.
Combining with communication system
and user interfaces, a debris flow
monitoring and forecasting system will
be introduced. During the process, the
possibility of using different equip-
ment to predict debris flow related
information would become clear. The
applicability and precision of forecasting
of debris flows when combined with
certain theories are the emphasis of the
study. ISO concept will be introduced
for quality control of newly developed
equipments. User interface and user
guide will be the requirement for every
sub-system.
The system will serve both as an
engineering system for predicting debris
flows and also as an educational tool for
the public.
