Abstract
This paper presents a novel analysis of a dielectric sensor using the bi-characteristic-impedance transmission line (BCITL) model. The dielectric sensor is based on a microstrip line and a complementary circular spiral resonator (CCSR) on a ground plane, where it is designed to operate at the resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz in the ISM band. The analysis is performed by varying the dielectric constant of materials under test (MUT) placed underneath the ground plane of the dielectric sensor. Numerical results show that the BCITL model of the CCSR-based sensor can provide an additional physical insight into the sensing mechanisms.
