Abstract
Searching studies on social movements in dramaturgy, sociology and communication, not much discussion nor imagination about how mass media to be the vocal tools in social movements can be found. This research supposes that mass media like TV drama draw closer to Taiwan people and have the most majority of audiences than theater and movie. In other words, TV drama may be the most ideal way to mobilize the majority of social movement participants. Therefore, how TV drama serves as the vocal tool in social movements is the main concern in this research.
TV drama is viewed as the persuasive rhetoric in this research. Public Television’s Crystal Boys and Taiwan gay and lesbian movement as rhetoric issue are chosen to be studied. By examining and evaluating how social movement rhetoric is achieved in the Public Television’s Crystal Boys, answers how TV drama serves as the vocal tool in social movements and the agency of mass media should be found.
This research indicates that the rhetoric of social movement narrative on TV drama may reach the social movement persuasive functions while it is correspondent with the purposes of social movement leader. This research also proves that the agency of TV drama can be a positive and expectative vocal tool in social movements.
