Abstract
A series of bipolar blue fluorescent emitters have been synthesized through the combination of phenanthroimidazole or imidazophenanthroline as the electro-accepting moieties with the electro-donating arylamines such as carbazole and diphenylamine.
In the first part of this thesis, the phenanthroimidazole-based molecules connected with carbazole and diphenylamine were designed, synthesized and characterized. The blue emitters PBC and PBnC with high photoluminescence quantum yield demonstrated external quantum efficiency (CIE coordinates) up to 6.6% (0.16, 0.06) and 5.4% (0.15, 0.08) respectively in nondoped organic light-emitting devices,.
In order to achieve better electron transporting ability than phenanthroimidazole-based materials, we further accomplished the isomers of imidazophenanthroline-based emitters in the second part of this thesis. The fundamental properties and applications of these materials were investigated by means of the analytical measurement and device fabrication.
