The present study proposes TEC-natural convection cooling module, which integrates a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and a flat plate fin heat sink, to apply to LED cooling. This work theoretically investigates the performance of this module. First, we build a thermal resistance model, and then establish the correlation of each detail thermal resistance. These correlations are coded in EXCEL VBA as a tool for analysis. With the tool, a case study is done and the effective operating region, in which adapting TEC is effective to improve the overall performance, is found. The optimum operating current under every heating power is also found with the tool. Because the geometry greatly influences the thermal performance of this module, the presented study does a series of analysis for each geometry parameter. While analyzing the geometry parameters, the optimum pitch of fin and optimum thickness of base plate are obtained.
