Abstract
The study examined the demographic differences between migrated and static
populations using 2001 National Health Interview Survey in Taiwan. The data included
5799 households, 22121 individuals completed face-to-face interviews and were of good
quality. The results showed that there were 2% inconsistencies between household
registration records and the facts that interviewee told in person in terms of birth date among
those of 12 years old and above. For the 15 years old and above, the proportion of correct
record on marital status was 96.7%, however, only 79.2% were correct on the educational
level. It is true that the higher the educational level, the worse their correctness of registration
records. The percentage of people who lived in their registered household was 56.4% if we
counted household as one unit, the percentage was 81.7% if we counted each individual as
one unit. Those who did not live in their registered household were slightly more on male, 20
to 29 years of age, higher educational level, married couple not living together, aboriginals,
and people living in middle and southern Taiwan.
