Maxillary Anterior Implants Replacement Following Ridge Augmentation Using a Xenogenous Bone Block at a Previously Failed Site: A Case Report

Abstract
Dental implant therapy has become a predictable treatment option for the oral reconstruction of missing teeth. However, implant failure may occur and the failed implant site presents a therapeutic challenge to the clinician, especially in the maxillary esthetic region. This article describes the successful implant retreatment of a 58-year-old male who suffered from a failed implant in the maxillary incisor area. The failed implant was removed and guided bone regeneration (GBR) surgery was performed using a xenogenous bone block and a particulate bone graft, which were then covered with an absorbable membrane. Two implants were placed on the augmented ridge eleven months after GBR surgery and the final fixed prostheses were delivered later. This case report demonstrates a successful approach to implant replacement when there is a compromised ridge following GBR that uses a xenogenous bone block.
