Abstract
Collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals, and exists in almost all the tissue types. Collagen is widely used in biomedical applications, e.g., tissue growth, wound dressings. This study is focused on the effects of the conformation of collagen and glycosaminoglycan on osteoblast adhesion, growth, morphology and functions. We found that soluble collagen is better than fibrillar collagen and denatured collagen on cell growth and alkaline phosphatase activity. Furthermore, we found that when collagen was coated on a surface with heparin, cell adhesion was best when heparin concentration was 0.02 mg/ml.
